Introduction of Conference 會議簡介

Date : March 11-12, 2017
Organized : The Hong Kong Association for Integration of Chinese-Western Medicine (HKAIM)
Venue : Tsang Chan Sik Yue Auditorium, Hong Kong Baptist University, Hong Kong
Funded by : Innovation Technology Commission, Hong Kong.

Under a program "Integrative Joint Organizational Platform" (IJOP), investigatory and educational activities try to promote a better recognition of disease problems and enhanced collaboration between practitioners in Chinese and Western medicine. IJOP's array of events across the district is characterized by a spirit of mutual enrichment – putting practice people together with health and industrial makers with creative approaches. Our project mission is to compose good details to prepare for Chinese-Western Medicine collaboration, using quantitative and qualitative inter-professional approaches as the basis for exchanging experience and ideas. It is our project goal that hopefully, the building of an integrative joint organizational platform for a cooperative collaborative environment and system can be facilitated, good for public health and for reduced costs in primary health care.
After two years, an international conference “Frontiers of Integrative Medicine
– Clinical Challenges and Future Direction” will be hosted in 2017. Educationally, there will be lectures and discussions on Chinese and western medicine themes, and explorations of alternate applications of both therapeutic strategies. The workshops on disease management review and integrative strategies facilitate, through open exchanges, practitioners in Chinese and Western medicine to elaborate experience and knowledge, and share views and concerns over disease and health management on cases and problem.

The profound meaning of this event owes much to the supportive work of presence of seniors and experts from the top three universities of Hong Kong.  We are encouraged to work harder and better with the significant support of renowned national and international collaborative and supporting organizations in this work to bring a better learning. In this connection, we hope to see global communication of how integrative medicine would benefit patient management.

That need to learn from other areas of medicine is a way to progress for all who wish to promote a better way of health and care for people. With advances in Chinese and Western medicine that sense of experiencing what others are doing and further the acquisition of knowledge is important. Chinese and Western medicine can come together by in-depth integrative studies, by evidence-based medicine, and by joint clinical collaboration.
Rather than just looking to peers, we will learn more about how to practice by looking at how an expert theatre director manages to put a play on.

HKAIM is partnering on the Integrative Conference with speakers including disease integrative medicine experts Chen Keji, Lu Aiping, disease experts Yeung , Shen  , and toxicology experts Tse ManLi, to address the various issues from the development and future of integrative Chinese-western medicine, to the way of disease management to bring mental and physical problems together, and the practice principles learnt from herb-drug interaction. The health policy advocate, Leung Ting Hung will address legal issues on how to translate work to the practice sector. (Controller, Centre for Health Protection, Department of Health) Conference’s Keynote lectures analyzing how integrative medicine can change research directions and lives, businesses and communities.

For the Hong Kong Association for Integration of Chinese-Western Medicine, HKAIM, to put the conference in this time of spring, is the perfect place for that to happen. The climate for integration of Chinese-Western medicine has grown and developed to a stage with much scenarios and background understanding. “What I love about integration is this diversity of creativity – Chinese medicine, western medicine, science, health, research, practicing out, it’s just a remarkable area. There is this sense of freedom and creativeness on top of scientific seriousness, this vibrancy that was just amazing. HKAIM with the support of the top three universities of Hong Kong has that unique quality. It adds a real sense of excitement and independent thinking and uniqueness to HK. It’s great to be able to develop pragmatically step by step.

This year, Innovation Technology Commission of the Hong Kong government supports the 2017 conference under IJOP. The conference will host two days of talks and workshops for aspiring practitioners and research workers in primary care and in specialties, offering insight into forging a way ahead in the integrative medical industry.
The conference will brief on some useful findings from the IJOP survey and interviews which will be detailed in the Final Presentation in April one month later.
